GISFI signs letter of Agreement with Association of Radio Industries and Businesses (ARIB), Japan - October 15, 2009

GISFIhas established collaboration with the Association of Radio Industries and Businesses (ARIB). The agreement, in the form of a Letter of Intent, foresees a sharing of best practices and identification of areas for co-operation in standardization work. The organizations will also work together on promotional activities of mutual interest. The Letter of Intent paves the way to future agreements which may result in even closer co-operation.


The Letter of Intent was signed on 15October 2009 by ARIB Secretary General and Senior Managing Director, Masayoshi Wakao, for International Partnership Projects, and Professor Ramjee Prasad, GISFI Founding Chairman. The signing took place in
Tokyo.

Both ARIB and GISFI share several high priority topics for standardization, including the "Internet of Things", convergent technologies, future radio access technologies and "green" issues. The new collaboration between the two organizations is expected to contribute a valuable sharing of expertise in these challenging domains, resulting in relevant, high quality standards for world-wide application.

About GISFI
GISFI's vision is to be an ICT standards forum in
India, developing standards to meet Indian requirements as well as contributing to the evolution of global standards. Its work will be based on a concept of public-private partnership ventures. A primary objective of GISFI is to harmonize the standardization efforts within the Indian market and to work in close co-operation with all standardization bodies. GISFI also aims to become an information centre for ICT activities in India.

The Association of Radio Industries and Businesses (ARIB) is a non-governmental and non-profit standards development organization (SOO), based in Tokyo, Japan, which plays key roles for better utilization of radio spectrum and for facilitating development of radio technologies in the fields of both telecommunications and broadcasting . ARIB objectives are to conduct investigation, research & development and consultation of utilization of radio waves from the view of developing radio industries, and to promote realization and popularization of new radio systems in the field of telecommunications and broadcasting. Thus, ARIB aims at promotion to public welfare.
